For more information on what to expect on one of our Learn to Row course, see our Courses page. You will be learning the basics of sculling (rowing with two oars) inside the Tank (an indoor rowing boat simulator) as well as sturdy Lake Boats throughout the course.
Are there any special requirements to take part?
We don't have strict entry criteria, however in the interests of safety on the water you must be able to swim a minimum of 150 metres unaided. You will require a basic level of fitness, but our beginner's level courses are more technical than physically demanding. You will be expected to do warmup runs and use ergs (rowing machines) during the course. All participants will be emailed a waiver form by our safety officer, which they will need to sign and return prior to the course start date.
This course is specifically for women - our October Men's course is currently full and underway, but we will be announcing the next one in the near future.
How do I sign up?
There are only a total of 16 places available on the course, which are allocated on a first come first served basis. People who have registered interest in advance are given priority.
Please note that course fees are non-refundable.
SIGN UP HAS NOW CLOSED. Please contact us if you have any questions.
Oh no! I missed out!
If you missed out this time round, please make sure you register your interest to ensure you're the first to know when we announce our next course.
What happens after I've completed the course?
Our Women's Squad is new and we are really lucky to have a team of women who are passionate about their sport and club.
After completing the initial course you will be encouraged to join a further two course modules which focus on applying what is learnt at beginner level to rowing in fine racing boats, and then progressing to Sweep rowing (single oar). Details of these will be sent out separately to interested participants.
On acquiring experience in fine boats participants will be able to join the more experienced women rowers in either our Novice or Social squads as full club members.
